Michael Mooney

OF COUNSEL

Mike concentrates his practice on corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, company formations, and drafting all types of corporate documents. Through his own business background, he is versed in the intricacies of deal making, and counsels clients on issues that require both legal knowledge and business savvy.

His business expertise stems from his experience as an entrepreneur and small business owner of ventures in New York City and Cincinnati, Ohio. Mike is a co-owner of an iPhone application and game software development company in New York, and a co-owner with his brother of an electrical contracting company in Ohio.

Mike began his career at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP where he worked primarily on complex mergers and acquisitions, including the $11.4 billion acquisition of Biomet by a consortium of private equity groups; the acquisition of Neiman Marcus Group by TPG and Warburg Pincus; and the purchase by UBS of the Private Client Branch Network of Piper Jaffray Companies. Additionally, Mike worked on a variety of derivatives transactions, including collateralized debt obligations underwritten by large financial institutions.

Subsequently Mike joined the New York office of Citco Fund Services (USA), Inc, the world’s largest provider of administration and other services to hedge funds. As legal counsel Mike advised senior management in the New York office and negotiated operative documents with Citco’s hedge fund clients.

Prior to attending law school Mike spent seven years in and around the Ohio Statehouse working as both a Legislative Aide in the Ohio Senate and as a Director of Legislative Affairs for the Ohio Insurance Institute.

Mike graduated from Kenyon College in 1995 and earned a Master of Business Administration in 1998 and J.D. in 2005, both from The Ohio State University. Mike is admitted to the Bars of New York and Ohio.

Mike spends time in both NY and Ohio. He is married, runs marathons, and loves being “bi-state” and working in NY.
