Philip Ransom Schatz
Phil Schatz graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1983 and from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review, in 1986.
From 1986 to 1988, he was a law clerk to the Honorable R. Allan Edgar, United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
From 1988 to 1993, Mr. Schatz was a litigation associate at the New York City law firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell. In 1993, Mr. Schatz opened his own New York City based litigation practice specializing in quality, personalized, cost-effective resolution of corporate and personal disputes. This practice was merged into the compatible practices of David Wrobel and Daniel Markham to form Wrobel Markham & Schatz LLP effective February 1, 2000. The firm name was changed to Wrobel & Schatz LLP effective March 1, 2002.
Mr. Schatz regularly practices before the New York Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the National Association of Securities Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange. Although much of his practice involves resolving disputes, a considerable portion involves preventing them.
Mr. Schatz is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the New York County Lawyer’s Association, the New York Criminal Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a Special Master and Mediator for the New York County Supreme Court, Commercial Division, and a Mediator for the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He teaches deposition practice and trial advocacy for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell and holds the NITA “Faculty” designation.
Phil Schatz is married to Kathleen Nester, assistant principal flutist and piccolo for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and member of the adjunct faculty for New York University. They have an twelve year old daughter, Greta, a cellist.
